Candles are an iconic historical means of lighting one’s way in the dark. Historically, however, candles were seen as expensive and very time intensive to make. Waiting for daylight was always easier.
Most candles that were made would have been made from tallow or animal fat, though these did not last that long or burn particularly cleanly. Beeswax was a more desirable alternative, and was used for clean burning lighting, but only for important occasions or by the rich or influential. Consequently, they are particularly known from monastic institutions.
Whilst beeswax candles may not be the most historically accurate material for most occasions, as they burn cleanly and brightly they are far more preferable than tallow.
These candles are handmade, using the dipping method, from pure beeswax. Wicks are repeatedly dipped into the melted wax to slowly build up layers until the candle reaches the desired size and thickness.
These candles burn brightly and cleanly for around six hours and add a fantastic ambience to whatever event or display you are creating.
***These candles are for use outside or within well ventilated areas. As with all candles, these should not be used in poorly ventilated areas and should be extinguished if build-up of soot is observed. Lit candles should be well clear of any combustible materials and should be attended at all times.***
Prices start at £4 per candle, with multiple purchases reducing subsequent cost.
