Leatherworking is the craft of making useful and decorative items out of tanned leather.
Leatherworking has been an essential part of society for cultures in Britain and around the world, with everything from shoes and clothing, to toys and games being made from leather at some point in history.
The skin of an animal is first tanned before it can be used as leather. This is a long process of cleaning, hardening and preserving the skin so it becomes more durable and lasting. The leather can then be cut, carved, stamped, dyed, moulded and stitched to make whatever goods are needed. Simple running stitches, sewn with leather thonging, are some of the most common stitches historically.
These kits contain everything you need to learn how to make your own Leather Box Pouch or Money Pouch. They are perfect for both adults looking to have a go at a new craft, or for a unique children's craft activity. These kits are suitable for children of around eight years plus, but should be carried out with supervision, as with all new crafts.
They contain multiple pre-holed leather pouch sections that need to be sewn together. The kit also contains a length of durable waxed linen thread and two large-eyed, blunted metal sewing needles.
They also come with a full booklet detailing, in easy to understand instructions, how to make your pouch. It not only covers how to put the pouch together, but gives instructions in basic leatherworking stitches for future projects.
